IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Exxon Mobil Corporation announced today that together with 650 Dallas-area employees and retirees, more than $1.5 million in contributions has been pledged to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas as a part of the 2008 campaign.

For several years, ExxonMobil has been the largest per capita donor to the Dallas campaign, donating more than $8.7 million since 2002. In addition to providing financial support, more than 200 ExxonMobil employees gave a gift of their time by volunteering at 12 North Texas non-profit agencies during the United Way’s Day of Caring.

“Giving back to our community is a high priority for ExxonMobil and our employees,” said Donald Humphreys, senior vice president and treasurer of Exxon Mobil Corporation.

“Supporting the United Way not only allows us to work alongside our colleagues to make a difference in our city, it also gives us an opportunity to interact with the organizations that benefit from our contributions. It is exciting to watch employees become actively involved in the Day of Caring projects, and then to see them return to the same agencies year after year.”

“We are truly grateful to ExxonMobil for its continued support of the United Way,” said Gary Godsey, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

“As more individuals and families in our community experience need, the demand on resources grows. This year, ExxonMobil employees have again stepped up and generously donated their time and resources to the United Way community.”

ExxonMobil employees have made up one of the largest single corporate volunteer groups in the Day of Caring, and this year’s event, held in September, marked ExxonMobil’s highest employee participation to date. Activities included serving lunch and dinner to the homeless at The Salvation Army; spending time with elderly clients at Senior Source; and reading books and newscasts for the visually impaired at Reading and Radio Resource. ExxonMobil employees also volunteered at Camp Summit, Child Care Group, Citizens Development Center, Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center, GRACE, Nexus Recovery Center, PediPlace, St. Philip’s School and Community Center, and Special Care and Career Services.

The agencies are also eligible to receive grants from ExxonMobil through the corporation’s Volunteer Involvement Program, which encourages employees, retirees and other eligible participants to actively contribute their time and talent to nonprofit organizations by providing contributions on the employees' behalf. Also contributing to ExxonMobil’s campaign total were the proceeds of a golf tournament and a silent auction.

The 2008 campaign results were a slight increase over 2007, when ExxonMobil raised more than $1.4 million for the United Way in Metropolitan Dallas and Tarrant counties. ExxonMobil employees volunteered nearly 22,000 hours in the DFW area during 2007, resulting in more than $234,000 in grants awarded to area organizations through the Volunteer Involvement Program.
