Steve Cassiani to Retire as President of ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mr. S. M. (Steve) Cassiani, president, ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company, has elected to retire on May 31, 2009, after more than 40 years of service.

It is anticipated that the Board of Directors of ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company will elect Mr. S. M. (Steve) Greenlee as president, effective June 1, 2009. Mr. Greenlee is currently vice president for Asia Pacific and Middle East with ExxonMobil Exploration Company.

Mr. Cassiani, a native of Brockton, MA, became president of ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company in 2001.

He joined Exxon Company USA in 1969 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in geology and a master’s degree in geophysics from Boston College. His initial assignments in geophysical interpretation were in the Southeastern Exploration Division in New Orleans. Mr. Cassiani progressed through various Exploration and Production Department assignments and was named district exploration manager in the Southwestern Division in Midland, TX, in 1975.

In 1977, Mr. Cassiani was named geophysical manager for Exxon’s Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic operations. He became exploration planning manager in 1981, and assistant manager, Corporate Planning, in 1982.

In August 1984, Mr. Cassiani was named manager of the Southeastern Exploration Division. He became operations manager of the Exploration Department of Exxon Company USA in August 1986 and vice president of the Exploration Department in August 1987. He was named executive vice president with the formation of Exxon Exploration Company in 1992.

Mr. Greenlee, a native of Short Hills, NJ, joined Exxon Production Research Company in 1981 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in geology from Duke University and a master’s degree in geological oceanography from the University of Rhode Island. He held several research and supervisory positions with Exxon Production Research Company in Houston and London before moving to Exxon Ventures Inc. in 1993 where he had supervisory responsibilities for Western Siberia and Kazakhstan.

In 1996, Mr. Greenlee became manager of geological operations for production operations at Exxon Company USA, based in New Orleans. He was appointed manager of area geoscience for Brazil for ExxonMobil Exploration Company in 2000 and a year later became vice president, geoscience, for Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Greenlee became upstream advisor at Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) headquarters in Irving, TX, in 2002 and was appointed vice president for geoscience for Asia Pacific, ExxonMobil Exploration Company, in 2004.

ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company is primarily responsible for research and development of technology to support ExxonMobil’s worldwide upstream activities.
